Many reputed industries have their machine shops fitted with "JAWS" power chucks on their CNC machines, Capstan and standard lath machines too.
ADVANTAGES
1. Clamping and unclamping time is saved.
2. Higher rate of material removal is possible.
3. Keying time is saved; hence operator fatigue is also eliminated.
4. Clamping and unclamping force can be uniformly controlled by adjusting
the air/hydraulic pressure.
5. Chuck can be opened and cleaned on the spindle itself since 'Jaws'
Power Chucks are front opening.
6. The self-locking system provided ensures a firm grip on the component,
thus preventing accidents in case of power failure or hydraulic/pneumatic
supply failure.

INDEXING CHUCKS
| All the parts held on chucks and turned require machining in two or more set-ups. It means |
- Elaborate fixtures involving references and high accuracies
- Loss of concentricity at various stages
- Inaccuracies involved in mounting
- Time lost in mounting each component, number of times
- Loss of machine hour in set ups, set up approvals and rejections

| This is a new concept of
machining components without the drawbacks mentioned above. We have to make a pair of holders suitable for your part, fix them on mounting pads, hold the part in the chucks, set all the
tools required for all the faces, and start machining, after first face is completed. |
- Pull clutch lever
- Turn the part partly with hand
- Release the lever
- Continue to turn the part until you hear a click assuring that the part has indexed exactly by 90 or 180 degrees (provision can be made for different angles also)
Clamping can also be done with pneumatic/ hydraulic cylinder
